SO CABLE

COMMON CABLE TALK

In our world, SO cables are everywhere, and they are described by confusing acronyms like “SO” or techie-sounding adjectives like “fiber optic.” Decipher the names of some of the most commonly used cables by reading below.

  • SO cable – Oil and this cable just do not mix. The designation “SO” means that the cable will remain oil-resistant. This property is beneficial, but it’s usually just the first of a few advantages of this temporary power source. Add an “O” and a “W” to the acronym, and you have an even hardier cable.
  • Fiber optic cable – You may have heard this term used to describe a cable service provider’s offerings. Fiber optic cable does not transmit electricity at all. In fact, it deals with light. It is thus not bothered by potential interference and has the ability to transmit signals over the span of long distances.
  • Coaxial cable – Though this type of cable is difficult to install, it is resistant to interference and is relatively sturdy. Thick and thin varieties are available for purchase. The difference between the two is that the thick cable usually provides additional watertight protection that the thin lacks.
  • Welding cable – This cable is a tough breed. It is used in place of battery cable often because it also offers superior flexibility. Use this cable outdoors without a thought – it holds up even under the most inclement conditions.

Many other common cables are part of our world today. Order SO cable or any of the many varieties available, by contacting Delco Wire at 1-800-714-WIRE (9473).
