SIAMESE CABLE

NOT ALL SIAMESE CABLE IS CREATED EQUAL

Different types of Siamese Cable have definite similarities. Nearly all of them are used as a preferred power source for security cameras. You will find the same general component makeup to all of them, a consistent marrying of a coax cable and power wires tucked together under a neat PVC sheath. Still, there are some differences in Siamese cable, and you should be sure to investigate them before you make a purchase.

  • Not all Siamese cables are ideal for outdoor use. If you are going to expose the cable to the elements, make sure that it’s waterproof. Many Siamese cables are manufactured with the assumption that they’ll experience interior use. These cables will not withstand constant bombardment by rain.
  • If you are going to install the cameras indoors, don’t assume that you have to buy a more expensive cable variety. Regular Siamese cables work just fine indoors and can withstand slight bending without marring the interior power source. It’s when cables are buried or exposed that it becomes necessary to purchase the hardier type of Siamese cable.
  • Think about aesthetics. Common cable colors are black and white. If you’re going to run the cable along a wall the color of eggshell, don’t select the black option. It will stand out – in a bad way.

Not all Siamese cables are created equal. They serve the common purpose of powering security cameras, but some may be more suited to your needs than others. Contact Delco Wire today at 1-800-714-WIRE (9473) to purchase yours.
